Crossroads Campaign: Support Alicia's Thriving!

Dear community,

Our beloved community member Alicia has had an incredibly challenging 2020 and needs monetary support to help get them through code school!

Some of you may know a little bit about what Alicia has gone through this year: Before the pandemic they had a steady job, but it was an in-person job that they had to leave behind once COVID-19 began spreading in the US since their family members are immunocompromised. This summer they spent months in the hospital supporting a family member who was ill and needed specialized treatment.

Alicia has been working super hard at learning web development & computer programming so they can shift careers and get a job in the tech industry. They had been receiving unemployment which helped pay the bills… but they stopped receiving unemployment two weeks ago and they have no other source of income. Fortunately their landlords gave them free rent in December, but come January they will need to pay rent and other bills so they can keep a roof over their head and care for their daughter.

This is where community comes in. Alicia and  their daughter have had an incredibly hard 2020 and they won’t be able to make it through this without community support. They don’t have blood family that has a financial safety net to catch them, so we are rallying and asking for your support so they can be caught by their chosen family.

We are raising the money required to pay Alicia’s rent, car payment, and other bills for January - April so they can get through school without excess money stress. School expenses are being covered by military benefits and hopefully a scholarship, so this is just to keep Alicia afloat while they study and learn.

Alicia is a motivated human who cares deeply about accessibility, anti-racism, education, mentorship, and resource-sharing. When they get a job in the tech, they are already planning on using their salary in part to fund another person of color through school and to use their skills to give back to historically marginalized communities.

Any of y’all that know Alicia know that they are a human who shows up for their community and their friends in a HUGE way, let’s rally together and support them when they really need it!

Other bills & gas: $500
Total rent & bills for January - April: $8,200
