My dearest cousin has been faced with something I am sure she never thought could be possible! On April 20th my 11 year old nephew Cristian was diagnosed with a rare heart condition that is not common in children! His diagnosis is Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy which is also causing him to have Mitral Valve Regurgitation. This is a life threatening Cardiac condition which requires open heart surgery and should only be performed by a cardiac surgeon with experience in this type of obstruction. The research Diana has done on this diagnosis explains his heart condition is very serious in children and the life span is 5 years if not properly treated. The pediatric cardiologist at Kaiser is not experienced in treating this condition. I can not even begin to imagine what she is going through or feeling! As his mother she is fighting for his future and well being. She is seeking treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and is on a waiting list. This clinic has a doctor specializing in Cristian's diagnosis. This is not covered by insurance and just to be seen is pretty costly not including any test or future treatment that might be needed. Also travel, lodging, and lost wages to get him to Minnesota will add up. This family is going through a lot and we would like to help ease some of the stress for them so the main focus can be on Cristan and his well being not the financial aspect.
