Credit River Cup 2022

Donation protected
We're excited to launch the 2022 Credit River Cup and with it, a fundraising campaign to directly benefit youth in our local region. Building up our community through soccer has been the vision of Sauga City Collective since our group formed in 2017.

Sauga City Collective and fellow soccer supporters in Mississauga are honoured to announce that proceeds from the 2022 edition of the Credit River Cup will be contributed to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel | York!

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF PEEL | YORK

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel | York is an organization that helps enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people through mentorship among adults and youth. Many young people find themselves in vulnerable situations regarding mental health issues, family violence, identity issues, poor living conditions, among many other forms of adversity which put them at risk of not reaching their full potential. With the guidance and support of a mentor, these risks can be avoided, and these young people can gain the confidence to achieve more – higher incomes, happier lives, and more contributions to their communities. The mentors advise and challenge these young people, act as their champions, provide greater consistency in their lives, connecting them to broader experiences, opportunities and networks, and provide safe, nonjudgmental environments in which the child or youth can confide anything.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel | York is a natural fit for our fundraiser and we're proud to once again help fund their programs through the Credit River Cup.

ABOUT THE CREDIT RIVER CUP

Founded in 2019, the Credit River Cup was established by Sauga City Collective as part of our mission to grow local soccer at all levels. The trophy was purchased using funds donated by several individuals, who have been recognized as founding members of 'The Supporters of Soccer in Mississauga' with their names engraved on the base. We believe the soccer talent produced by clubs in our city is among the best in the country and many have gone on to represent Canada at the national level. With that in mind, our goal is to create a legacy that is exclusively Mississauga, a tradition that can rally fans to support local soccer every year at the grassroots level and have a positive, lasting impact on our community at large through fundraising opportunities.

PAST FUNDRAISING

In 2019, $1,000.00 was raised for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel through initiatives that included a Co-Founder program that allowed supporters to have their names engraved on the Credit River Cup. In 2021, another donation for $1,000.00 was raised for the Wasa-Nabin program run by The Indigenous Network. Having a direct and positive impact on our local community is one of the pillars of Sauga City Collective and one that will continue long into the future.

THE COMPETITION

Operating as a round-robin style tournament using head-to-head matches in the League1 Ontario regular season, the inaugural tournament in 2019 saw North Mississauga SC (NMSC) lifting the trophy. As a result of the global pandemic, the 2020 tournament was canceled and the trophy was dedicated to Mississauga's Frontline Healthcare Workers for the sacrifices they'd made to keep us all safe and healthy. In 2021, Sigma FC captured the trophy with a commanding 4-1 victory over rivals North Mississauga. Fundraising has always been an integral part of the competition. This year, defending champions Sigma FC will be looking to repeat and keep their local bragging rights.
