Creating Sign Language Magic
We've been accepted to the SummerWorks Exchange 2019!
We will be providing a workshop called "Creating Sign Language Magic," where we will explore different methods of accessible sign language theatre in various formats. We will be using William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer's Night Dream," as an example.
Right now, we're raising funds to develop this workshop and get it ready for its first presentation in SummerWorks Exchange this August. We need to fundraise up to $1500 to support the creation of the workshop. Here's how your donation will support us if we reach our financial goals:
If we raise $500.. we can pay for interpreters in the rehearsal process
If we raise $1000.. we can increase the fee rate for our performers
If we raise $1500.. we can cover all our incidental costs like transportation, GoFundMe fees, etc

When?: Tuesday August 13th, 2:00pm - 4:30pm
Location: Artscape Youngplace, 180 Shaw Street, Toronto, Ontario
About Creating Sign Language Magic: Explore the possibilities for creating accessible sign language productions for d/Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and sign language users. This workshop looks at multiple approaches, using select performance excerpts to demonstrate interpretation, shadowing, and acting practices. In addition, you will have the opportunity to try your hand at what you have learned in small groups. Led with Sage Lovell, Thurga Kanagasekarampillai, Derek Kwan, and Suchiththa Wickremesooriya.
Part of the SummerWorks Exchange programming – a series of events to facilitate artist and community growth, to strengthen the ecology of live performance in Canada, and expand our dialogue and collaboration with the international arts community.
We'd like to thank our partners: SummerWorks Performance Festival, Generator, Theatre Passe Muraille, & Toronto Arts Council Open Doors for their contributions to make this happen.
