Support Black Love Matters Mural at the Hostel

Cream City Hostel opened our doors to the international community last July 2019.  We had over 25 different countries visit Milwaukee and stay at our hostel. Hostels provide opportunities for travelers to experience the world and for our community to interact with the world.

We first opened this gofundme to assist the hostel during these challenging times for hostels financially- but with the changes of the world we are shifting directions.

We have a half block fence line along our backyard that we will be providing space for a mural for Black Love Matters. We did a taco fundraiser this last weekend and we're looking to expand the funds for materials and to the artists. All proceeds of this fundraiser will go toward the important work to raise awareness of the systemic racist systems that exist in our world and how we can start healing within our own comunities.

All monetary donations will be used to fund the work of a group of Queer BIPOC and Black Woman artists led by Alex Scott(they/them), @theurgy_art . Over the next few weeks they will be gathering, eating, sketching, discussing, and creating a mural. The funds will be used to buy the correct supplies so the mural lasts for a decade or more - not just 6 months. Any additional funds will go into the artist pockets so they can take care of some of their needs and hopefully have more time outside the constraints of a systemic racist capitalist system to rest and heal with their families, lovers, friends, and community.

Alex's intention is to always provide a reminder of and now more than ever that our black communities need to stay united on all front. “Black Love Matters” comes from their reflection on being an agent of love, art is a part of their spiritual practice - centering body and soul.
