Crazy Talented Asians&Friends @ Flushing Town Hall

Dear Friends,

We ask you to join us in supporting our crazy talented Asian artists in programs that highlight Asian perspectives and their diverse creative talents.

As we are still processing the deep impacts brought by the most recent wave of anti-Asian violence, we believe that Asian American artists and their stories need to be heard and be cherished even more.  Please stand with the diverse Asian American community and support telling the Asian American stories by making a donation. We recommend $20 but welcome any amount. We sincerely thank you for the support, especially in this difficult time.

What is a better way than supporting programs that showcase the Asian American talents in music, live comedy, animation and many more?

Crazy Talented Asians & Friends (CTAF) is a community-led program series dedicated to works by Asian Americans—to showcase the diverse creativity and impact this community has to offer, while bringing together families, friends, and audiences from different backgrounds to celebrate their stories.

Produced by the CTAF team and presented by Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts, dba Flushing Town Hall (FTH), a member of NYC’s Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) and a Smithsonian Affiliate, the first CTAF comedy and animation film event was premiered in May 2020 despite the challenges during the COVID pandemic. In 2022, we are expanding the program to include a concert talk event with the world class young classical musicians: Sean Chen, Siwoo Kim and Andy Lin.

Here are the line up for the 2022 program!

Crazy Talented Asians & Friends: an evening of concert talk - "How to be a successful musician: Stop practicing?" on Friday, March 18th at 7:00 PM ET. Come join us for an exciting evening of Q&A and a world class concert by a trio of award-winning musicians. Mr. Chen is a prizewinner at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and winner of the American Pianists Awards and has just recently released a digital record on the Steinway & Sons label. Violist and erhuist, Dr. Andy Lin, is recognized as one of the most promising and only active performers who specializes in both western and eastern instruments. Hailed by the New York Times as “Incisive” and “compelling”, violinist Siwoo Kim is also the co-founding artistic director of VIVO Music Festival. This will be a great event for young music students, recent graduates, and their parents and music teachers!

Crazy Talented Asians & Friends: an evening of live comedy – “We are here. Are you?” on Saturday, April 23, 2022, as a celebratory prelude to the upcoming Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Highlighting Asian American experiences and comedy talents, this in person event kicks off at 8:00 PM (EDT).  Talents with East and South Asian American heritages will share their stories through sketch and stand-up comedy. As actress Sandra Oh once said ‘It’s an honor just to be Asian’. There are so many Asian American stories that need to be heard and comedy is one of the best art forms for sharing them.  Mr. Otter Lee, who also played Otter Lin on Stephen Colbert Presents: Tooning Out the News, returns to host this exciting live event. He will be joined by stand-up comedians Ann Chunharakchote, Jason Choi, John Hedrick, Dominique Nisperos, Josh Ri’Esgo, Anhtriet Tran, Julia Zhen, as well as Overstep Comedy group. The event will also feature Teresa Ting from Main Street Patrol to raise the awareness of hate crimes that continue to target the Asian American communities.

"This show features some of the most exciting Asian comics in the New York scene! Don't miss out and come see.", says Sabrina Wu.

Recommended for ages 13 and up.
