COVID-19 Relief: Latino Communities Uptown, NYC

"Who is donSMITH ?"
My name is donSMITH and I'm a musician raised in Uptown. No place like it. I've been an active artist and member of my community for years, performing all over the city and shedding light to who we are and what we come from. So much of what I am is where I'm from. I've dedicated my art and activism to defending Uptown and all of it's treasures. The biggest of those treasures is, of course, the people. It will always take a village.
With the help of you all, I'm raising money to benefit Fresh Youth Initiatives (FYI), and other non-profits in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and any donation will help make an impact.
"Who is Fresh Youth Initiatives FYI ?"
Fresh Youth Initiatives is a 4 star charity (via Charity Navigator) that assists immigrant and first-generation youth who have the fewest resources to reach their greatest potential. They operate programs at five sites Uptown with 1,500 participating children, pre-K through grade 12, through after-school programs, summer camps, advisory, mental health services, and education and college access programs.
"We've all been affected by this pandemic in different ways. Why FYI and Uptown?"
Well, here are some quick facts:
-The Washington Heights community has experienced disproportionately high numbers of COVID-19 cases, deaths, and unemployment, which has multiplied stressors like food insecurity, housing crises, and mental health crises.
-Through June 2020, every donation will be matched 1:1 by FYI’s Board of directors.
-A gift of $100 provides a week of groceries to a family in need. When matched by FYI's board, $3,000 raised on our end can potentially feed 60-70 families in need.
"What is donSMITH & Forever Culture's role?"
In times of a pandemic and BLM protests, after the killing of George Floyd and MANY OTHER INNOCENTS, transparency is a priority; we need to know where our donations are going and that they are actually making a difference.
With that said, with every sale and stream of my newest EP, "Dear Culture ", every single dollar donated via Gofundme.com and all other donations will be poured back into the communities that I'm proud to say I'm from.
So yes, everything counts in the types of battles we are fighting right now. So keep fighting to the fight.
