HBS Alumni Response to Covid
Dr. Sahil Gupta, the driving force behind the program, has been associated with healthcare services in India for over a decade. He has put together a team of doctors who advised patients if they need oxygen or need hospitalization. He has personally donated 20 oxygen concentrators, which patients can borrow for free. Currently, Oxygen concentrators are being black marketed in India and, therefore, out of reach of people who need them the most.
What’s happening?
Covid 19 has infected atleast 20 million people in India. 3 to 5 people succumb to death every second because of Covid, and the number will increase exponentially over the next two weeks. In the past three days alone, more than 9000 families have bid goodbye to a loved one. A quick look around, and you’ll see grieving families everywhere wearing hazmat clothing as they perform last rites. Hospitals have run out of essential medical supplies, with many patients dying from oxygen shortages.
Dr. Sahil and his fellow Harvard Business School alumni are raising additional funds to help with the Covid situation in India. It will help buy:
- Oxygen Concentrators
- Medications
- Essentials for grieving and underprivileged families
Why should I donate?
India has been a good global citizen, sharing vaccines and other medications with the rest of the world during the first wave. Elders in India are giving up their beds and choosing to die so the young can survive.
