COVID-19 Pandemic support for the elderly

Donation protected
We're working around the clock to keep our locals safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The amount of support offered online has been incredible with communities coming together globally. Our Facebook group, In Need! Salisbury & Surrounding Areas, has reached almost 6,000 members in under 14 days. However, what about those that can't get online, that are alone, with no one to talk to and no one to assist with essential needs?

Introducing the 24 hour, 7 day a week support line.

- Free prescription collections, including emergency support often with little to no notice.

- Grocery shopping, including helping those with specialist dietary needs.

- 'Buddying up' and being a friend for those in our community that have no one to talk to.

To put things in to perspective, we take between 20 and 60+ calls every day of the week. We aren't paid, government funded or financially supported by a bigger organisation. We just want to make a difference in the world, so here we are!

Why we need your donations:

Well, our group of 60+ DBS checked awesome people are volunteers. Right now, we're all doing this out of the kindness of our own hearts. As we continue to grow, more petrol is being used to drive from A to B, and more shopping is required to be paid for amongst other overhead costs. To get the word out there we print flyers with a contact email and mobile numbers.

For groceries, many of the most vulnerable in our community are unable to pay via bank transfer (they don't understand how, or haven't set up online banking), they don't carry cash and they sit and worry about asking for help because they are unable to pay.

For example:

We took a call last week from a terminally ill cancer patient, unable to get an online food shop, no cash on them, and no way of getting out of the house because they are in the highly at risk group. This person had no family, no friends and no offer of support from anywhere else. With the use of kind donations, we will be able to remove any stress associated with payment and fund the shopping to make the service as smooth as possible.

We took another call a few days ago from a very, very elderly person who had to self isolate but had no one around. Usually, this person would be out in the community, socialising through routes like the choir. Due to the pandemic, this hasn't been possible and we noticed that their landline was not working as it should. We paid for a replacement handset so that this particular person did not have to be completely cut off from the world.

Please, if you can spare anything to donate, you will shape and change real lives.

Thank you from ours to yours.
