As we put 2020 behind us, we had high hopes for a return to normal life here at the sanctuary in 2021. The early return of visitors was much anticipated and like the rest of the country we were highly optimistic about the New Year. As we are all aware the arrival of new variants has thrown the entire country into a long term,extended lockdown. While there is a lot to be hopeful about with the roll out of vaccines it is proving to be painfully slow and we have little hope of opening our doors this summer. On a personal level we are well down the vaccination listing and have to prioritise our health and well being for the sake of our young family.

It looks highly unlikely that international travel will open up this summer and visitors from the U.S., U.K. and mainland Europe make up a large proportion of our visitor numbers in ‘normal’ times.

We have struggled so hard over the last 12 months to ensure that we remain in operation as the need for our help has increased rather than diminished. As numbers increased and funds disappeared we have held on in the belief that much needed funds would be replenished from Easter onwards. In simple terms the bank balance is all but depleted and we have extended credit as far as we can go. Once again we must ask for help for our vulnerable residents and those souls who still suffer in silence until help comes along. We have been here before and have gathered the strength to rise again but we are battle weary at this point. Somehow it seems even harder this time but we cannot look into their gentle eyes and walk away. Please help in any way that you can. No donation is too small.
