Covering London medical visit costs

Hi,

My name is Daniel Knight, founder and active developer of DietPi . However, this campaign is on a personal level. I need your help and kindness to try and fix an issue I am unable to achieve myself.

For the last few years, I have been extremely unwell, with a long term illness, which is still yet to be diagnosed.

In short, the illness appears to be related to my bowels and possibly autoimmune. I am housebound and bed/sofa ridden for the majority of the day. Any bowel movement (which I have no control over) is extremely painful, I lay on the floor after passing through, waiting for the morphine to kick in.

I am only able to eat once a day (before bed), which results in unbearable pain and inability to function on a basic level for several hours afterwards (I can only describe it as IQ 142, suddenly goes down to 60). The symptoms keep me up most nights. In short, my bowels control when I am able to sleep, and how little actual sleep I get.
Some days are worse than others, but in general, I become exhausted very quickly and I am unable to enjoy any basic quality of life with my fiance and 2 sons.
Simple tasks such as picking my 1 year old son up, is painful and can have bedridden consequences.

DietPi  for me, has been and always will be a way for me to keep my mind busy even during the bad days. To help others enjoy their SBC device. However, regardless of how hard I push myself, most days are now becoming more difficult to work on the project, due to daily symptoms.

GP’s have hinted at Crohn's, M.E. I have confirmed depression and “appropriate” medication, due to the constant physical symptoms limiting my daily life.

I am currently under a specialist at UCLH (University College London), undergoing various tests and follow up appointments.
I’ve also recently been accepted to a medical trial in London for December 2018. Which relates to bowel specific issues.

I need your support to help pay for overnight accommodation and help cover some cost of travel during this process over 12 weeks.

I can claim back some of the travel expenses, however, due to the nature of my symptoms, I will require my fiance to accompany and support me on the travel. This also includes my 2 sons (1 and 4 years old) and regardless of my symptoms on the day, for my sons, it will be a mini holiday to help make up for lost time since their births and my daily symptoms having a negative impact on their lives.

Costing for 4 overnight visits to London for UCLH & medical trial:
 - Hotel in London (eg: Travelodge) £50-100 per night = £400~
 - Kettering <> London return train tickets £95~ for 2 adults = £380. Some of which I can claim back and will be used for living expenses (food and local travel).
 - Gofundme costs + buffer = £40

If any funds are left over afterwards, I will use this to fund future UCLH appointments if required.

I hate asking for money for personal use, however, I’ve reached a certain point in my life, where no matter how hard I fight on a daily basis with symptoms to try and exist on a basic level, I am incapable of fixing and funding this myself.

Hopefully with your help, the medical trial and UCLH tests + appointments will either find the cause of the problem, and/or, point the NHS in the right direction to take a long overdue more accurate diagnosis.

Kind Regards,

Dan
