Coronado Bridge Cares Fund

Hello, my name is Elizabeth Bruhin. On Novemeber 8th, my husband, Dr. Matthew Bruhin and I happened upon a beautiful soul, who had run out of options to continue living in a cold world. His name is Juan...This man has served his Country as a vet in the Army, has a seven year old daughter who he loves and wants to see, and works a  job without a vehicle or place to stay.

Turned away by the only homeless shelter in town, because he got off of work to late to enter, left unaided by local mental health care, and forsaken by anyone who would help in any meaningful way, this young man, born and raised in San Diego decided that there was no where left to turn. He started his walk up the same bridge that has taken the lives of so many.

When we came up to him he refused to look at us, refused to speak, clutching his rosary,  and sobbing, intent on stopping the pain with the only way he knew how. After  a slow climb that seemed to last forever, we reached the top of the bridge, he began asking us to look away as he attempted to go over the edge. The multiple departments of law enforcment thankfully allowed my husband and I to speak and try and stop what seemed like a certain suicide. We were terrified, but contined to fight and try and get through what must have been years of aguish and failure. For some divine reason, our words began to have impact. For a fleeting second something piereced through a dark and impending vail that seems impenatrable at times for so many. He heard us. He trusted. He reached out.

After we hugged him for what seemed like an enternity, crying and praying, we then traveled to safer ground.  We were allowed to take him to get the very best care around and were happy that we had the privelge to reach out and save his life in such a way. It was nothing short of a miracle. He is safe, he is cared for, he is alive.

As amazing and miraculous a situation last night was, the real work begins now. He needs housing, he needs food, he will need continuing metal health care. And most of all, he needs to be able to feel like a man who can work an honest job for an honest wage, and provide for his little girl, who almost lost her dad on a bridge. Please help us any way you can by dontaing anything small or large ,to give a good man a chance to live. Really live.

All funds will go directly to the man who's life was spared after he is discharged from our rehab facility. It will be used for housing expenses and vehicle expenses so he can get to and from work without having to ride a bus all the time.

Thank you...
