Over the last two seasons, Lámh Dhearg CLG in Hannahstown has lost two men central to the club long before their time. First, our teammate Ryan Straney was taken from us in a road accident in Australia, and just nine months later, our senior hurling manager, and Ryan's uncle, Daryl Fegan lost his battle with prostate cancer.
Daryl's strength throughout his battle with cancer and after Ryan's death was remarkable to watch. He took charge of getting Ryan home, and did so in good time through coordination with the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. Throughout the 2024 season, Daryl never stepped back from his responsibilites as senior hurling manager, often coming to training straight from sessions of chemotherapy.
As the Lámh Dhearg senior hurlers prepare for the 2026 season, we need to fundraise as any other club does. What we have decided to do is organise Corn Daryl and Sciath Ryan, an in-club seven-a-side hurling tournament to be played on the 3G at our club grounds on 28 December, starting at 11am. The proceeds from this GoFundMe, the money raised on the day from participating teams, and the money raised through collections in the club bar afterwards will be split evenly three ways - between the Lámh Dhearg senior hurlers, the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust in memory of Ryan, and Prostate Cancer UK in memory of Daryl.
Any and all help, whether through this GoFundMe or by showing up and supporting on the day in the club - there will be a trad band on after the tournament - is greatly appreciated. There is a goal set because GoFundMe forces you to set one, but we are simply aiming for whatever can be raised.
If anyone would like to reach out to offer any help etc, get involved, please reach out and I will get back to you.
