Corey Siegfried, 46 year old amazing doggy dad to Duke and Luna, son, brother, and friend was diagnosed with Richter's Syndrome in September 2017.
Richter's syndrome (RS), also known as Richter's transformation, is a transformation of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) into a fast-growing diffuse large B cell lymphoma, a variety of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Corey's treatment over the past year has included a regimen of chemotherapy and radiation to prepare him for a curative Stem Cell Transplant. Corey was fortunate to be matched with a donor and courageously underwent the transplant on August 17 at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Post-transplant recovery is a challenging process and Corey will expect a 3 to 6 month recovery to regain his health and strength. While Corey has been in treatment he has been unable to work. For many in this situation, back up income sources like employer disability insurance or unemployment insurance would fill the gap until they are able to return to work. Unfortunately, Corey was denied unemployment because he is unable to work. On top of that, his employer's disability insurance compensation has a 180 day waiting period and he is disqualified from purchasing his own short-term disability because he has a “pre-existing condition”. So he’s had no income since June. We are looking to relieve the financial pressure that Corey faces during his recovery.
We know Corey is too proud to ask for financial help, so we are asking you for him. Your gift to support Corey will help to cover the cost of his care and treatment, travel expenses and every day living expenses.
