Cora's Fight Against Leukemia

One of our fun-loving, spunky, energetic, loving, sweet little girls at Watch Me Grow has been diagnosed with Leukemia. Cora developed some abnormal bruising last week and is currently fighting this disease at Phoenix Children's Hospital. Nicole, Cora's mom, has had to take a leave of absence from teaching so she can be with her at the hospital during this trying time. We are working with the family to help them in any way we can. Our family had the most devastating 24 hours. We found out our spunky little 2 year old Cora has leukemia. We have a long road of tough treatments ahead of us. Please keep our little girl in your thoughts as she begins this brutal fight.

Cora Update:

Cora had abnormal bruises on Tuesday, we got bloodwork on Wednesday and by Thursday at 4:30 am we were called to go straight to the ER. In the last 2 days Cora has had a ton of bloodwork, a chest x-ray, an echocariagraph, an EKG, a platelet transfusion, a red blood cell transfusion, and surgery to put in a port and take samples of her bone marrow. We know she has Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia. This type of leukemia is very fast growing and rare for people under the age of 20. The treatment is extremely aggressive. It is the general kind and not the super rare kind luckily. We are awaiting labs to analyze the DNA mutations that occurred so we know how to tailor her treatments. We joined a leukemia trail study. She is beginning chemo today for a 10 day cycle and will be here for the next month until her immune system recovers.
