Hi, I'm Dana and I am 8 years old. My friends and I bake cookies to find cures for kids who are sick. I want to tell you about our friend, Ollie.
Ollie got PANS two years ago when he was in kindergarten (now he's a second grader). Before that, he was learning to read and write and having fun at school. PANS changed all that.
PANS stands for Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome. Whew! What that means for Ollie is that he got a fever for a couple days, and it led to tons of really bad problems with his brain. First he had a lot of anxiety and couldn't sleep. Then he got muscle problems. Then it got so bad that he lost the ability to talk, do schoolwork, and even play the drums. Ollie was really good at the drums!
Ollie is a little better now and he can remember some of his words. But that's not enough. I miss my friend the way he used to be.
For Ollie to really get better, we need scientists to do lots and lots of research and find better treatments for PANS. The Stanford PANS Clinic is one of the best research centers in the world for PANS, but there are not a lot of people working there.
Our goal is to raise $30,000 to pay for a postdoc researcher to join the team for a whole year. That will help them do so much more research!
I hope they can find a cure for PANS for my friend, Ollie.
To raise $30,000, we are baking cookies. That sounds crazy, right?
But last year, another friend of mine named Mila got sick with a rare disease called Batten, and my friends and I raised over $55,000 with cookies and my GoFundMe page. The scientists that we helped fund think they found a cure for her disease and right now, Mila is getting an experimental treatment that will hopefully save her life.
Helping Mila was the best thing I've ever done. So many people came together and made Mila's treatment possible. It was like a miracle. Now I want to help make another miracle for my friend Ollie.
Can you help me cure my friend? Any size donation will help. Thank you and please help us spread the word.
All funds raised will go directly to the Stanford PANS Clinic.
