Chuck Murphy, friend and mentor to many, is preparing for major surgery.  He is having a complete Back Stabilization from T1 to pelvis, meaning they are are putting two rods in that will hold his spine in place. Chuck was 5'11" and has collapsed to 5'4" due to a combination of Scoliosis and Post Lamenectomy Syndrome.

Although we never hear Chuck complain, he is in constant back pain, sciatica pain and more! This extensive surgery should fix all of this. The surgery is 6-8 hours and Chuck should be in the hospital 3-4 days, then home on bed rest for 2 -3 weeks. He will have to wear a bone stimulater and brace until everything heals. He has had two other back surgeries and has faired well. He is intending the same for this major surgery.

Chuck also has Prostate Cancer. It seems to be receding as his PSA numbers are going down. Chuck is using holistic approaches.

Chuck, a former Marine, does not want to be a burden on anyone, but he acknowledges that this is a tough period he is facing. Chuck is on a fixed income supplemented by his reading/counseling work which he obviously will need to take a break from to heal.
