GRACIAS.

My name is Zelzin Aketzalli, I'm from Mexico City and I'm 25 years old.

I was born in the Iztapalapa neighborhood, a place where few of us dare to dream and many young people turn to drugs.

In 2016 I graduated as a Communications and Electronics Engineer from the Universidad of Instituto Politécnico Nacional.

When I graduated I decided to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, a trail that starts on the border of Mexico and goes all the way to Canada. I started walking on April 4, 2017 with zero experience in high mountain hiking, without ever having seen or experienced snow before, not knowing any English and walking alone through the mountains of the United States of America for 4277 km (2658 miles) in 5 months.

During those 5 months I learned to use an ice ax, crampons, to walk through the snow, to overcome my fears and most importantly I learned to speak English.

On the Pacific Crest Trail my motivation was to see women of different ages and countries walking alone in the mountains.

In hiking I have found my true passion in life and how to show the people of my country the importance of conserving our natural areas, promoting our culture and fighting for your dreams.

Starting on May 23, 2018, I walked the entire Appalachian Trail which is 3524 km (2190 miles) in 100 days averaging about 25 miles a day.

My goal is to be the first Mexican to achieve the triple crown of hiking in the United States of America. A title that recognizes hikers worldwide for their achievement of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, The Appalachian Trail and the Continental Divide Trail.

Currently in Mexico there is little financial support for sports, especially a sport as new as hiking.

That is why for these last 2 years I have worked extremely hard and dedicated myself entirely to completing this goal.

It is not easy to walk for months in the mountains and woods without generating any income.

To achieve these goals I have sold my business and work very hard when I am not on the trail..

April 15, 2019 will be the year that I hike the last and greatest trail, the Continental Divide Trail that is approximately 5000km (3000 miles) with the goal of completing it in about 6 months.

Walking 6 months in the mountains of a country whose exchange rate is 19 times greater than the Mexican dollar (Peso) makes my goal very difficult, but not impossible.

The money will be used to buy the equipment I need and the food during the trip.

I ask for your help either through financial support or by sponsoring me so I can achieve this great dream of promoting through hiking the importance of recovering and conserving our planet’s natural areas.

Thank you.
