Connie, the living liver donor

This is Connie Fluke, and she’s donating her liver to Heather McCormick.
If you were to Google the definition of altruism, I’m certain that you would see a picture of Connie, warmly smiling back at you. Her generosity knows no bounds and can be felt so intimately by others. Her empathetic nature means she constantly helps others: a compassionate ear and hug, baking goods for someone’s celebration, babysitting friend’s kids, creating care packages, driving friends to and from medical appointments… she gives, and gives and gives. And on April 8thConnie is taking her generosity to another level and becoming a living liver donor.
In late 2018, Connie heard the news that Heather was in need of a new liver after tests showed precancerous cells were present in her bile duct. Understanding how difficult organ matches can be, Connie felt compelled to see if her liver would be compatible and was confirmed as the donor by March of this year.
Connie is providing an amazing gift of life, but the donation process will not be easy nor without its costs. Connie will temporarily reside in Edmonton, where the liver transplant surgery will take place, followed by a few weeks of monitoring and medical follow-ups. She will be unable to drive for a period of six weeks and will need to rely on friends and/or taxis, for rides everywhere. While AHS allows donors to reimburse for some items, not everything will be covered such as food, transportation, any overages on the hotel rental that’s beyond the reimbursement limits, etc. Your financial support to help cover these costs would be very appreciated.
