Hi, we are Sea Communities, and we are a social enterprise working with members of the community of Les, Bali. We take volunteers to rehabilitate our coral reefs and help teach the local children English. Now, we want to expand our volunteer outreach to computer literacy. So we need your help!
We are raising money so we can purchase computers and equipment needed for our new computer education center in the local High school. We ask you to please help us so that the children of Les can have access to computers and their benefits.
In exchange for your kind and generous donations, some of you will get to volunteer in Bali teaching the children computer skills! Sounds exciting? Read on to find out more.
Who is Sea Communities?
Since 2012, we’ve been working with the villagers of Les to rebuild the reefs and to improve their livelihoods through our marine, English teaching and community outreach programs.
Les Village Computer Literacy Centre
In 2017, an old leaking building of Sekolah Dasar No Lima (SD5) was renovated to become the computer education center by YMCA of Singapore, Hwa Chong Institution and ACS International. We now need computers and furniture. The education center will help to assist 256 students (grade 4, 5 and 6) each year, on a rolling basis.
Where does the funding go?
We are looking for total pledge target of $12,000AUD ($10,000AUD donation + $2,000AUD cost of rewards packages). The $10,000AUD donation will be applied to purchase:
o 16 computers (1 computer for the teacher)
o 1 chair for the teacher
o 15 benches for the students
o 9 tables
o 1 projector
o 1 whiteboard
o 2 fans for the room
o Extension cords, power boards and electrical cables
o Computer maintenance and running costs
Resilience and sustainability of the project
Other than the capital outlay for the buildings renovation, equipment and computers, the education program will run without funding support. The education of the program will be by the local teachers as well as volunteers. Perhaps you may even be interested in getting involved?
