In the last few years a number of community based music projects have become established in South West Wexford and have found their home at the Kiltra School of Music where we, Robert and Angela Mahon, are music teachers and delighted to share our musical skills for the building up of the surrounding communities.
Sometimes Growing up in RURAL IRELAND, music education is/was not accessible. And so it is our little mission here in rural south Wexford to give the gift of music!
In 2016 we started the first Subsidised Music Schemes in the County. We open up the schemes to primary school children who otherwise may not have the possibility of a music education. At present we are teaching over forty pupils on the schemes called the KSM Young Voices and SWOPS (South Wexford Orchestra for Primary Schools) Every year we hope to continue to take an additional twenty pupils onto the scheme.
The Little Sea Musical Society, and the KSM Concert Orhcestra are two other groups that we contribute to musically and have their base at the KSM. From young to old and from Ballyhack to Blackwater they come to make music together, but as the numbers grow, we are running out of space!
Plans are in place, the foundations have been laid and the time has come to build a music room big enough to accommodate the swelling numbers of children and adults from rural south wexford who want to have an opportunity to learn music through these music initiatives that we facilitate. Please be assured that we do not profit financially from any of these community music projects.
You can help us Build a Homeplace for all these community music projects so that our local children and adults from all the surrounding communties will have a central place where they can come together to learn, rehearse and spend time developing their love for music.
Here's how you can help us!
