Community Youth Mental Health Boost

Youth Mental Health issues on the rise in the Newcastle/Hunter region. Suicide is the leading cause of death among Australians aged 15–24 and an increasing number are presenting to Emergency Departments (EDs) in a state of acute distress.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been particularly stressful for young people and families which has contributed to an increase in psychological distress, self-harm and suicide. Now restrictions have eased and we’re starting to come together again with our friends/family and community groups leading up to Christmas, Newcastle-based charity, EquiEnergy Youth is asking you to focus on the young people in your lives and check in on their mental health.

“Community Youth Mental Health Boost” Campaign

EquiEnergy Youth is raising money to provide free psychological first aid training, “Coach 2 Cope: Families and Carers'' in our region for all of next year – target $50,000. Our Clinical Director, Dr Stephen Spencer (PhD) provides guidance on how to respond in the moment when a young person experiences an episode of psychological distress.

Please follow the link and make a tax-deductible donation to your local youth mental health charity, EquiEnergy Youth to show your support for young people and families/carers in your community.
