Tulsa County has graciously opened its community once again to help those in their time of need. Since August, we have worked with over 100 Afghan refugees to establish a life for themselves and join our growing community. In the coming months, that number will exceed 800. Working in tandem with Catholic Charities and other local organizations, Tulsa Metropolitan Ministries currently provides daily transportation, food, clothing and basic necessities, English Language Learning, and coordination with healthcare officials to aid our newest neighbors in establishing a new life for themselves and their children after being a fortunate few to escape an otherwise dire situation. There are still thousands awaiting their chance for the human right of safety and security.
This current project aims to welcome our new neighbors and help them to become legal and active members of our community. However, this will take time due to the lengthy process of government paperwork and establishment of work permits, greencards, and basic health benefits.
Founded in 1939, Tulsa Metropolitan Ministries (TMM) has provided direct support to all members of our community based on identified needs. Over the years, TMM has worked to establish Youth Services of Tulsa, Meals on Wheels, the Day Center for the Homeless, and worked tirelessly to bring our various faith communities together. All proceeds donated here will go directly toward transportation, supplemental and supportive care, clothing and basic necessities, and community building. Gifts of any amount are impactful and will help us make Tulsa a home for all.
