Community Love for Nalo

Family, Friends and loved ones,

A few days ago I was home alone when I suddenly fainted, got back up in a daze, then fainted again two more times. In that fainting, I shattered three teeth, and busted my head and face open on the floor. I could barely see, sitting there bleeding and crying with teeth in hand, trying to find a way back to my phone to call for help. I grew so fearful for my body that I wasn’t sure I was going to make it past the moment.


 After a terrifying call to 911, I lost consciousness again and woke up in an ambulance. I learned at the emergency room that I’d suffered multiple syncope (passing out) episodes due to vasovagal nerve response (a nerve that shuts the body down due to some combination of stress, trauma and dehydration).

I have teeth broken in my gum line that cause me extreme pain, short term memory loss, and dizziness that have me out of work and school.

In the days that have followed I have been hydrating, learning everything I can about how to reduce the chance of future episodes, and getting familiar with a new smile. The medical/dental bills for this incident are steep, as I need to cover the ambulance fees as well as an emergency root canal and the dental care (three oral surgeries and a reconstructive surgery for pain from head trauma) it will take to restore my smile. 

Anyone who knows me knows that I am always smiling, whether I’m serving community or spending time with family. I know that with my community’s help, I’ll be back to feeling like myself in no time.

My 30th birthday is October 11th, and the only thing I really want is to be healthy, pain free, and confident in my smile again.
