Commemorating Joy ❤️
Most of you know the story behind our momma girl Joy. But for those who don’t you can read it down below. Joy recently passed away on September 8th, just shy of her 3rd adoptaversary which would have been November 29th. I wanted to do something to commemorate and honor her life. I decided to raise money in her name for the shelter that did so much for her. Anyone that got to meet Joy knows just how much she lived up to her name. Words cannot describe how much we miss her and how much our family is still grieving her absence. This means a lot to us, so I’m asking anyone who can to donate to the go fund me below or to Venmo me and I will total it all up and donate it on Joys adoptaversary to BARCS. ** I fell in love with her when volunteering at BARCS. I came across her kennel when walking dogs. I noticed she was a part of their love last forever program (adoption fee waived due to age) and that she had a medical sign saying she had mammary masses that were being evaluated. She quietly waddled over to me and once in the play yard instead of playing she just sat right next to me and wanted pets and kisses. She was the sweetest old lady. I had never been so sad to put a dog back in their kennel. I came home and told Pete about her and thought about her throughout the week. The following Saturday I was back volunteering and she was still there. I made it a point to spend some good quality time with her and even sat in her kennel with her before leaving for the day. I came home that day crying to Pete about how bad I felt for her and how I wanted to adopt her. I was clearly already attached. The next day he had went to BARCS and adopted her. They informed him that her masses were likely malignant and that they were awaiting biopsy. They said it was possible she may not have long and it wanted to ensure we still wanted to adopt her. When we brought her home she was timid, unsure and sore. She didn’t really have much of a spark or real excitement over anything that most dogs would. We took her to the vet to evaluate her limp and got her put on some medications. After about a month something in her changed. Her personality really shined through. She was a totally different dog. She had such a will to live and wanted to always be with us, she was perky, playful, and even was rough housing with the boys. We got her biopsy results back that confirmed she had breast cancer. Despite that we continued to just love on her and it was like once she realized she was a member of our family she decided to change her fait. A few months that was initially estimated ending up turning into almost 3 years!
