Coming Back From Evil

Linda Fisher was struck by a virus while on her honeymoon in Mexico. She was starting a new job in Washington DC the Monday of her return. On Thursday she became seriously ill and flew home to Oregon.  Unable to walk, she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS).  She became completely paralyzed within a week and is currently in a rehabilitation center working on regaining the use of her legs. Insurance has denied coverage for some of her medical costs. Linda’s friends and family are reaching out to ask for help with unreimbursed medical expenses and other costs associated with her treatment. Her anticipated recovery time is six months to a year.

Linda is nothing short of amazing and our hope is that she will have a complete recovery. She is no stranger to medical struggles. In 2004 she was fulfilling her life-long dream of being a police officer with aspirations to become a chief of police. She was injured in an automobile crash and forced to retirement in 2006. Two months later her brother was killed in an auto crash. A former Washington State University women’s basketball point guard, she persevered and eventually landed a spot on CNN’s Fit Nation Challenge (similar to the Biggest Loser). She competed in the New York City Triathlon with Dr. Sanjay Gupta in 2010. In 2012 she participated in the Iron Man Challenge.  Linda currently holds positions as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Phoenix and is a Highway Safety Specialist in the Countermeasures Division of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
