Fred has been an amazing translator and guide for the Haiti mission teams for almost 20 years. He is so caring and considerate making sure that the teams are safe and have a cultural experience in Haiti as well. He is also a member of the Haiti Steering Team, providing input as well as assistance on the ground for the various projects when the teams are not in Haiti. He is such a great partner and we so appreciate his willingness to volunteer his services to enable the mission groups to travel to Haiti.
Fred is married to his spouse Christe and they are the proud parents of their two boys, ages 10 and 8, as well as their 2 year old daughter. The boys love school and are very good students. They are polite, respectful, fun loving and studious and so looked up to by their little sister.
Fred works at the University of Notre Dame in Haiti and oversees the computer lab. He also teaches English to the medical students at the university. He has given us tours of the school and introduced us to the other staff members leading us to realize that he is a valued employee.
Fred and Christe have many day to day economic challenges. Unfortunately Fred’s pay is extremely low and the university has not been able to pay him on a regular basis. In addition, the school has been closed on and off for months at a time due to demonstrations and riots in the streets as well to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus he cannot count on his irregular and minimal salary to cover their daily cost of living.
Christe has not been able to get a job due to the high unemployment rate in Haiti. Also, she must have major surgery when she has the funds needed to pay the hospital bill and has had to postpone this and endure a great deal of discomfort as a result.
The value of the Haiti gourde has decrease dramatically and the cost of living has increased significantly in Haiti making for a substantial increase in the price they must pay for food, water, school tuition and transportation to work and school. Some days the boys and Fred cannot go to school and work as they don’t have the funds to pay for transportation. In addition, Fred and Christe’s rent is due for the sum of $1600 which is an annual rate. They just don’t have the funds to pay it and our subject to eviction.
Thus you can see that Fred is so valued by the Haiti mission and is so in need of financial assistance. Please contribute any amount within your means and desires because every bit will help go to assisting Fred and Christe with their needs for their family. They are so appreciative of any efforts to assist them.
