Cole Steele's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Cole Steele was like every other 18-year old at the end of Grade 12; excited for prom, excited for post-secondary school, and looking forward to all that the future has to offer.  Despite having a persistant cold Cole wasn't going to miss his prom and celebrating with his friends and classmates.  The next morning he noticed a few rashes on his body which rapidly turned to bruising.  Within days Doctors told Cole the devastating news that he had Acute Myeloid Leukemia and his whole world and that of his family, was turned upside-down.  Despite this unimaginable diagnosis, Cole's positive attitude and sunny disposition is an inspiration to us all!

Admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital on July 10, 2017, Cole began the first of three aggressive chemotherapy treatments.  He came through this initial treatment with flying colours.  During the second treatment the results returned from his initial bone marrow test and he will require a bone marrow transplant. Next month Cole will embark upon his final chemotherapy treatment, according to his current treatment plan, before the transplant in November.

The road that lies ahead for Cole and his family is one filled with uncertainty as his course of treatment will be determined by how he reacts to the bone marrow transplant.  The treatment can affect his organs and he could run into secondary medical issues because of it.  As the treatments will render him sterile, Cole made the decision to store his sperm so that he can one day have a family of his own.

While some of these costs are covered by OHIP and private benefits, there still remains a large cost of his care that falls to the family.  There are many crippling and unanticipated costs to dealing with cancer.  Already Dawn  & her husband Barry have spent over $5,000.00, out-of-pocket.  Some of the upcoming costs include stays at the Lodge at Princess Margaret Hospital for 3+ months, prescriptions, food, parking, a medic alert bracelet, annual fees for sperm storage, and countless other costs.

The need for funds is urgent and I ask you to please find it in your hearts to help Cole and his family with your donations, so they can focus on Cole's path to recovery rather than worry about how they are going to pay these mounting bills.

Thank you on behalf of Cole Steele and his entire family!!!
