Hello,
My name is Stephanie Klees, fiancé to Caleb Mabis. On Saturday November 27th, 2021 Cole Mabis, Caleb's older brother, passed away after a long battle with addiction and depression - at only 36 years old.
Cole graduated from Belleville High School in 2003. After high school Cole started college at UW-Whitewater. During that time he started drinking heavily. He struggled deeply with depression, and eventually drugs and alcohol took over his life. He was now fighting the heartless disease of addiction, an epidemic in our country that is taking many young lives everyday. Cole started to get into legal trouble and continued to use. His addiction waxed and waned over the last decade, and on November 27th, it took his life.
Cole became a father May 8th, 2020 to Breklyn Mae. Having Breklyn was one of Cole's proudest accomplishments, and he cherished every moment he spent with Breklyn. Cole had a huge personality, he loved hard, and had an infectious smile.
Tammy and Jeff (Cole's mom and dad), are some of the most kind hearted, inspiring, warm, and incredible people I have ever met. This was as much their battle as it was Cole’s, and they fought every step of it right there with him. They supported Cole in a way that honestly, most would not have been able to. They got him into numerous treatment facilities, and despite maxing out credit cards on treatment costs, educating themselves on drug awareness, and providing "tough love," the battle against addiction took their son. From the outside looking in, it is easy to not understand the action of an addict. But every addict is someone's child, someone's brother, someone's sister.
I am asking for your prayers for the Mabis family - specifically for comfort, peace and healing. I also ask if you are able to please make a donation to help cover funeral and burial services for Cole. I am trying to help make this time a little easier for the Mabis family, as no parent plans to bury their own child.
