Colacillo Family Flood Recovery

Like many others in our community Cristian and Emily Colacillo’s family’s lives have been deeply impacted by the record flooding that hit Whatcom county November 14 & 15, 2021 causing extensive damage to their home. Cristian, Emily and their two young daughters evacuated their home on Sunday, November 14 to stay with family in Lynden while the flood waters swept through the city of Sumas, Wa. Their home, being older, is on one of the lower lots in Sumas and was filled with a few feet of water that took about 5 days to fully recede. Due to the age of the home and the extensive damage brought on by the water, after all the cleaning and mitigation many weaknesses in the structure of the home were exposed and it is more financial feasible to demolition the structure and start over than to raise the home above the flood plane and repair.

 

Emily and Cristian are two of the kindest, most generous, and hardworking people you could ever hope to meet. They first met each other in Argentina while they were both working with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) giving their lives to serve others in need. They were married in 2013 and moved back to Emily’s hometown of Lynden, Wa in 2017 when they decided they were ready to start their family. They have 2 beautiful daughters, the oldest is 5 years & youngest is 2. In early 2021 they were able to purchase their first home and moved in in March. They have lived much of their lives in service to others and are now humbly seeking help as they begin the long process of rebuilding their home and putting their lives back together.

The donations will go to rebuilding their property where the insurance was not enough, replacing all their appliances, furniture, and other belongings that they lost and misc. expenses they may run into while not being able to live at home.
