Cody’s Heart Surgery

Hello my name is Courtney Blanton and I am Cody Graves sister. As some of you may know, my brother Cody had to have open heart surgery when he was born. He was born with Transposition of the Great Vessels and he had to have an Arterial Switch. My parents never knew Cody had a heart problem until 5 hours after he was born when he turned blue in the delivery room. Cody was flown down to Shands hospital in Gainesville to have an immediate surgery. We are so very thankful to have Cody in our lives. He is a miracle! I am not quite sure how my parents were able to handle their newborn being taken from them and flown miles away after they just met him on his birthday but God’s grace is sufficient. For 22 years now he has been as healthy as can be and a lot of the times it’s like Cody never had any issues at all. Every year he goes to the cardiologist for a checkup and goes on with everyday life. At his last checkup, his cardiologist discovered something going on.  After many tests (CTA Scan, MRI, Stress Test, Heart Monitor, Heart Cath... etc), Cody has severe narrowing where his left coronary artery was attached to his heart during his original surgery. Adding to the complex issue, this artery is also being compressed between his aorta and pulmonary arteries. This needs to be corrected very soon. It is very serious and the Drs are working hard to come up with the best surgery for Cody to correct the issue. This condition is pretty rare and we ask that you please pray with us during these trying times. After all of the tests and traveling back and forth to Shands hospital in Gainesville for treatment the bills have been really adding up. Cody is trying to finish a degree in business and due to his heart condition he has not been able to work very much, plus after his surgery he will not be able to work for 2 months.
