Cody Winters's Winter

Hi, I am Cody Winters and I am raising funds for my 2020/2021 Snowboard Season. I am super excited for this year as I switch to a World Cup- focused season.

As most of you know I started my own window cleaning business, Winters Window Washing. I work as much as I can and save as much money as possible in the summers to fund my snowboard season. With no help from the US team and sponsors only helping me with equipment, the prices to travel, train, and race on the World Cup Circuit is astronomical, as the races are primarily in Europe and Asia.

I can't tell you how badly I wish that I could fund myself entirely and not have to ask the community for help. Talking about myself is not one of my strong suits but as I progress in the life of being a professional athlete I realize it is key. I am working really hard at becoming better at it and being more comfortable asking for financial help. I truly appreciate all the kind and generous people that have helped me already and I am so glad I live in a community where people are so selfless and generous.

I am currently writing this in Austria. I have been in Europe for almost 3 weeks now and have had 3 races already. My first race was a World Cup in Cortina d’ Ampezzo, Italy.  Then I was off to Carreza which is also in Italy for another World Cup. Both races were amazing learning experiences. I did not have the cleanest runs but gained a lot of experience racing at the highest level. After those races I was off to Lachtal, Austria for my final Junior World Championships as I age out this year. Wow, what an amazing time I had. I finished second In the Slalom. Getting a medal at Junior Worlds has been a goal of mine since I first started racing. If you want to watch the race I will leave a link at the bottom. I think a big part of my success was due to the work I put in the gym this off season. Sadly I was not able to race in the Giant Slalom or Team Event at Junior Worlds because one of my teammates that was at the World Cup in Carreza got Covid-19. I had to Leave Lachtal the evening of the Slalom race, get a Covid test and go into quarantine. Gladly I tested negative but was still not allowed to race. It was a true roller coaster of emotions day as I achieved a goal I have worked for my whole life and then was not able to do the same the next day. Nevertheless I am just happy I am able to race during this crazy time and I understand the precautions FIS is taking.

Moving forward, I am spending the Holidays at home base here in Austria preparing for the next block of world cups. My next race is a World Cup in Scuol, Switzerland on the 9th and then i'm off to BadGastein Austria for the first Slalom World Cup of the year on the 12th. I will then travel back home for some rest and reset as I prepare for the two World Cups in Russia on Jan 30th and Feb 5th. If I have good results at these World Cups I will be invited to World Championships. Because of Covid all events are not written in stone to happen and already there have been some cancellations and rescheduled events. It is hard to know exactly what to plan for because of all the moving parts.

When people ask me about my snowboarding they always ask if I am going to be in the Olympics. From an outside perspective going to the olympics is the only goal people think of. The 2022 Olympics are certainly my ultimate goal, but I have a staircase of other goals to accomplish. Those include, getting two top 16 finishes at a World Cup, Podium at a Europa Cup event and over 280 FIS points. If I can accomplish some of these goals I’ll have a shot at an Olympic spot.

I know everyone is struggling in this tough time, but if you can, please consider helping me out! Any amount at all will help. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my quest!
