Towards food security in Cape Town

I am reaching out on behalf of the vulnerable women, children and young people in township communities in South Africa. People who live without the certainty of having enough food to eat everyday, but still need to fulfil their work and school days. 

Supporting women and children
Impoverished women, children and youth are particularly vulnerable to malnutrition and food insecurity. South Africa is one of the most challenging countries in Africa to live in because of the vast inequalities. 

This campaign aims at co-creating research about food security within two townships in Cape Town.  Participant observations and interviews will be conducted with women and youth.

In addition, an extensive survey, measuring severity of food insecurity, will be conducted by going from door-to-door in disadvantaged areas.  Women who live in these communities will be helping out by knocking on doors and present households with a questionnaire.

Donations will reach these women as compensation for their work. The income is highly valuable to them in providing food and shelter for themselves and for their children.

My mission
My goal is to create new knowledge, that carries hope and promotes transformation. It is my wish to do research in an ethical and respectful way, by actively engaging with the very real people who are in focus in this study. 

All my work here is done in collaboration with the Valley Development Projects, who support women and children in a number of ways, daily feeding programs being one of them. Any surplus funding will come to their benefit.
