Four Horses - Animal Cruelty Case

Donation protected
I am the Executive Director of the Coconino Humane Association and have worked at the shelter in a variety of positions over the last 13 years.  I am fundraising on behalf of the Coconino Humane Association and seeking your help with four beautiful horses that are in protective custody pending an animal cruelty case that is currently in Federal Court in Flagstaff, AZ.

On Thursday, April 14, 2016 a multi-agency team executed a search and seizure warrant alledging animal neglect and animal cruelty.  Four horses were seized from their owner.  The team proceeded to hike 8.5 miles out of Supai, AZ (a village in the Grand Canyon), to where a horse trailer was parked and waiting at the top of the Canyon.  The horses were loaded and transported 150 miles to our shelter in Flagstaff, AZ.

The horses have been in protective custody for ten days.  It is unclear how long the horses may be in our custody pending their owner's court hearings.

All four horses are being treated for moderate to severe saddle sores, infections,  worms, and long hooves.  In the ten days they have been in our care they have been seen by the veterinarian multiple times and the ferrier came to take care of their hooves.

We are asking for your immediate assistance to help us pay for the medical care, wound care, and the feed these horses require to get healthy again.

In ten days the expenses for these horses have exceeded $2,500 and we have no idea how long these horses will be in our care!
The costs for 10 days of care for four horses:
$1,500 for veterinary care
$435 for medications and supplies for wound care
$615 for hay and feed

No one group or agency can take on four special care horses unexpectedly without help.  We would appreciate any help that is provided whether it is
$1, $10, $100, or more.

Please help the Coconino Humane Association make a difference in the lives of these four horses!

BROWNIE:
(This picture is from day 8.  The wounds look terrible but the veterinarian says the way they look now is good - they are beginning to heal and the skin is mostly nice and pink.)

(What a difference time makes!  This pictures a from May 20, 2016. It had been 5 weeks since we started treatment and we are seeing a difference!)
Brownie is the highest need of the four horses.  He has a Body Score of 1 and is at LEAST 500lbs underweight.  He has significant saddle sores along his spine and hip points.  He is under the care of the veterinarian and is being treated for malnutrition, multiple infections, an eye condition, worms, and his open wounds.

LIT:

(Picture May 20, 2016)
Lit is the second highest need horse of the group.  She has a Body Score of 2 and is about 200lbs underweight.  She is a small horse and has pack saddle sores along her dorsal region as well as behind her front legs.  Lit is blind in one eye. She is being treated for worms, malnutrition, and open wounds.

BLUE:

(May 20, 2016)
Blue has a Body Score of 3-4 and is about 250lbs underweight.  She has open sores along her back and presented with a heavy load of worms.  She is under veterinary care for her wounds and has been treated for worms.

RED:
(Red really enjoys his under-the-halter scratches)

(Picture May 20, 2016)
Red came to us in the best shape of the four.  He has a Body Score of 4 and is about 200lbs underweight.  He has some saddle sores along his back and they are healing well.  Since he feels the best Red has been a little rowdy with his friends.  We moved him into his own corral so he would no longer have the ability to bite and kick at the weaker horses.

Thank you for reading this plea and we hope you will consider donating to help make a huge difference in these horses lives. They deserve it!
