Unfortunately, our school does not have a budget to provide food to students on Saturday School. 87% of the students at Pinkston are classified "Economically Disadvantaged" by the State of Texas, and they receive free breakfast and lunch every day at school. The sad reality is, at more affluent schools, students have everything they need to succeed. We have fewer resources and less support, but my students still have to take the same tests in order to get into graduate high school and get into college.
We need your help! If you can donate even a small amount, it would a tremendous help. Last year we had a group of about 20 students that came to Saturday school, and we personally spent about >$500 on food over the course of the year. This year, I am the only Algebra 1 teacher and I have a group of 60 COMMITTED STUDENTS that want to succeed! Unfortunately, it just isn't economically feasible for me to feed all of them.
We aren't looking to buy anything fancy, just fuel to keep students going during a Saturday Algebra session.
Here is a sample of what we would need for one Saturday:
Water (We can't use the water in our fountains.)
6-Foot Sub Sandwiches
As you can imagine, even when buying in bulk and sticking to low-cost items, all of this can quickly add up when feeding 60 students 12-16 times. If you know of any great group discounts or vendors/restaurants willing to donate, please let me know!
Thank you for your support! If you can't support us, please find another classroom out there to support, either financially or through volunteering. There are many students out there deserving of the support.
