I was awaken this morning by a phone call from my sister explaining to my that my grandmothers house had set on fire. As you can imagine , my heart sank into my stomach. I immediately tried to call my grandma to see if she was ok. To my surprise she answered. She told me that everyone was ok ( her , my aunt , uncle and 3 of my Younger cousins were sleeping in the house at the time as well as my grandmas dogs). They all stood outside in freezing cold temperatures at 2:30am in their underwear and night clothes as the fire was extinguished and most of their belongings were burned to a crisp. My grandmothers house was the central point for my whole family. Anyone could visit and stay over my grandmas house at anytime. She would clothe you , feed you and make you laugh. Now that is gone . Along with her belongings my grandma also lost her source of income . She was an in home daycare provider in the inner city community for over 30 years . She opened her home to everyone and helped many of us by watching our children as we worked. 5 days before Christmas my grandmother lost her home , her job, her memories , her comfort , her familiarity , and her peace. We are asking for donations to help her replace some of the things that she has lost as well as some of her lost income. She is rebuilding her entire life after one day and during the holiday season. Please help us make her new year a little bit better than the old one has ended. Thank you in advance .
