So on September 5th I'm heading to Timberline Lodge Bible School in Colorado for 9 months. Timberline is part of the Torchbearers Trust (http://www.torchbearers.org/
), of which Capernwray Hall in Lancashire is the HQ, so to speak. My family has long been going to Capernwray, as some of you may know, but we have also been fortunate enough to have spent some time at Timberline on family ski holidays. The school is quite small, with only around 30 students, who are mainly from the USA and Canada - I will be one of the three Europeans, and the only Brit in attendance! Timberline is unusual in that it puts a major emphasis on helping its students work out what it means to live in community as Christians, so our personal development is closely monitored and there is a strong pastoral structure with emphasis on personal growth and mentoring from the staff. While there, I will be doing not only theological study, but will have a structured approach to mission, beginning in the first term with weekly service in the local community, then moving outward to an urban mission trip in New York, and culminating in a week's mission trip abroad in the final term. There will also be opportunities for me to serve the guests who use the school as a base for ski holidays, by cooking, cleaning, and also ski guiding out on the slopes. There are also a number of church and school youth groups who use the centre over the winter for weekend trips.
To raise money I'm doing several things:
1) Working as much as possible doing small jobs like ironing and babysitting (if you know of a job, please let me know!)
2) Doing a 94km/58miles Sponsored Bike Ride in 3 stages - 10miles on Tuesday 12th August; 30miles on Saturday 16th Aug and 18miles on 25th Aug. It would be great if you could sponsor me!
3) I've also applied for grants and am accepting donations.
