Hi, I’m Rebecca and I’m fundraising for Andreia and Sonia and all the animals who have lost their home at Clube Equestre A Palmeirinha. On 13 July 2022, the Almancil/Vale do Lobo/Quinta do Lago area of the Algarve was hit by an awful wildfire. Brave fire crews fought for 24+hrs to save lives and houses.
Devastatingly, this small equestrian
community and business was completely destroyed. Local people rallied round and rescued the horses and other animals who lived here, and thankfully no humans or animals were harmed. We were in the area, where my mother lives, and had to evacuate our house. It was a terrifying day and the wildfire spread rapidly.
Andreia and Sonia set up the Club in 2010 and I first met them in 2016 when I started visiting them for rides a couple of times a year. My daughters had riding lessons too and the girls were always so sweet and kind with them. The most gutting part of the fire loss is that these amazing ladies have hand-built this equestrian facility from the ground up, with timber and love. Their passion for the welfare of all animals is inspirational, and the Club was run for the animals and the children who visited.
It is beyond awful that there is now nothing left, and I know many people (both local in the Algarve and in equestrian communities in the UK and elsewhere) will rally round to help get this important, humble business back on its feet.
Please give what you can. Thank you.
