It's the showdown we've all been waiting for - a SUPER SPRINT for a SUPER PRIME p/b clippedin.bike, and with your help, it's all going down at the Sun Devil Crit on Sunday, Feb. 5 at historic ASU Gammage.
Who needs a Superbowl when you can have a SUPER PRIME?!?
THE GOAL: Raise at least $1,000 to be split between the Pro Men and Women's fields so each has a jackpot super prime.
WHAT'S A PRIME?: A prime is an intermediate sprint during a criterium that offers a prize. It often makes riders choose to blow themselves up racing as hard as they can against other riders to cross the line first to win money or save themselves for the race win at the end. In the middle of the race a bell will ring, and the first rider to cross the line as they come around again wins the prime.
WHY A SUPER PRIME?: At Tour of America's Dairyland every year at the Downer Avenue Classic crit, small businesses, cyclists and spectators donate money to a super prime for both the men's and women's pro races so they can see a battle royale as riders race toward a line to cash in on prizes that approach the $7,000 mark.
WHY THE PROS?: These riders have been working hard for years to get to where they are and often live out of the trunk of their car trying to make it as a professional cyclist. Let's give them something for their effort and see how fast they really are!
HOW ARE WE EVER GOING TO RAISE $1,000?!?: Hundreds of riders come out to race at the Sun Devil Crit. We would only need 100 riders to donate $10 to reach our goal. That's only $10! It's less than a typical lunch! You can do it! Let's support ourselves as bike racers at our own events by putting on a fun and exciting prime and revving up excitement about the race so spectators can watch, get pumped and decide to start riding and racing bikes!
