I'M ALIVE YOU BASTARDS AND I ALWAYS WILL BE will be the inaugural production of Nightbloom Theatre Co., Cleveland's newest theatre focused on the development of young theatre professionals and the bolstering of marginalized voices. Colin Anderson and Casey Venema are both Cleveland-based directors who are preparing for grad school. An important piece of that preparation is self-producing, and we are so thrilled to be making our Cleveland debut with this incredible piece: I'M ALIVE YOU BASTARDS AND I ALWAYS WILL BE by Roxie Perkins, who wrote the book for this year's Pulitzer Prize-winning opera, PRISM. The piece is about self-discovery, self-reliance and coming to grips with the monster that lives in all of us. It will be at Maelstrom Collaborative Arts from October 2-6, 2019.
In the age of mounting student loan debt and an ever-shrinking job market, self-producing can create long-lasting financial turmoil. Even so, we believe that the piece (and our future careers!) are worth the risk. This amount is approximately half of our total budget. We are applying for grants (and recently received one from the Cleveland chapter of the Awesome Foundation!), but the majority of our budget will come out of our pockets. We believe in paying artists a respectable wage for their work. We won't be paying ourselves for the production, so all support goes directly into the hands of other Cleveland-based artists.
Any amount that you are able to give means so much to us. And we mean ANY amount -- whether it's $2, $20, $200 or $2,000. All supporters will be publicly thanked during the run of the production, as it truly would not be possible without you! We will be running our own ticketing platform as well, so if you are unable to give here but able to come see the show, that support comes directly back to this budget.
We hope to create many more opportunities like this one at Nightbloom, and your support helps us do that. Thank you for your time and consideration, and we hope to see you at the show!
