My name is Claudio Veloso. I’m 18 years old and I live in Castro, Chile. My dream is to attend university and study kinesiology so I can work as a physical therapist.
No one else in my family has ever received a college education and we don’t have the resources to pay for it. For the last 2 years, I have worked the night shift at a grocery store, while attending high school. Often, this meant finishing work at 5 a.m. when I had to be at school by 7 a.m. Much of the money I earned went towards supporting my family, and the rest I saved for my education. Despite my work schedule, I studied hard in school and I received very good grades. I scored well enough on my tests to be accepted to Andrés Bello University, which is known for being one of the best schools to study kinesiology in Latin America. Attending Andrés Bello University would be an incredible opportunity for me because it would give me the chance to study abroad in Spain and receive a professional title that would allow me to work in the United States or Spain in the future.
I was very lucky to receive scholarships based on my academic achievements in high school. Between those funds, the loans I will take out, my savings, and my job, I can cover nearly all of the $53,455 it will cost for me to complete all five years of school. However, because of the upfront cost for the first year, I am $4,000 short of being able to enroll. Because of this, I'm asking for help to raise the last $4,000 necessary for me to attend university.
Two years ago my high school homeroom hosted an American exchange student from San Francicsco who helped me set up this account.
