Clark Hasberry, Jr's Kidney Fund

Clark, 31, was born and raised in Murrells Inlet, SC.  Diagnosed as a diabetic in his early years, Clark never had the medical care plan most people are privileged to.  His estranged father didn’t provide support and his mother did the best that she could with her limited income and knowledge of the diabetic disease.  In 2012, Clark had in infection in his foot from enjoying life and walking the beach.  That infection never healed.  After a few progressive amputations Clark ended up losing his left leg.  He couldn’t understand why this all was happening to him at a young age.  He was supposed to be carefree and experiencing life as a “normal” person would.  In 2013 Clark’s kidneys suddenly failed.  After being sick for a week, and not being able to eat food or drink fluid without vomiting, Clark went to the doctor.  He was told his kidney’s no long can support him and he had to check himself into the hospital ASAP.   The only thing Clark could say was “Why is God doing this to me?”.  Clark went immediately on dialysis and got back to as normal as he could be within a couple weeks.  Shortly after he went to an Orthopedic Surgeon to look at his leg as he had severe knee pain.  He found out that his knee was destroyed and needed a knee replacement.  During that surgery the doctor shattered his femur bone and Clark has never been able to walk the same.  The femur has since healed, and along with the prosthetic leg he is able to walk short distances.   He is currently doing dialysis three times a week at Fresinius Dialysis Center.

 Clark constantly asks the question, “Why me!?!?”.  To that question I have no answer.  No one, especially a 32 year old in the prime of their life, should have to be going through the things that Clark is right now.   But do you know what?  Clark is and has been doing everything required to keep himself alive.  He’s been fighting and is showing no signs of giving up until he gets a new kidney that will help him be independent and free of any machine that is keeping him alive.

The funds that are donated will be used for assist Clark with his journey of praying for a kidney through the transplant center at MUSC, and if funds are available, to assist Clark in getting on transplant lists at other reginal medical centers.  The out of pocket costs for the transplant are at least $5000 according to MUSC.  On top of that, 2 weeks of housing, living expenses, anti-rejection drugs, and travel back and forth to Charleston several times a month for the first year post transplant are in store for him.
