Ashley Robbins needs our help!
I can honestly say Ashley is one of the most generous, caring and open-hearted people I’ve ever met. Much of her generosity has been funneled into saving animals: her love of animals knows no bounds. She has been known to nurse car damaged squirrels and birds back to health in her home as well as save countless turtles from impending doom on the roads (if you ever saw a full-term pregnant lady single handedly stopping 4 lanes of traffic to usher a turtle across the road, that was probably Ashley).
Most of her humane efforts have been focused on dog rescue. Ashley has spent countless hours and thousands of her own dollars nursing, sheltering and finding homes for abandoned and abused dogs. After hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Ashley decided she couldn’t sit idly by, so she packed up her car and drove to the Gulf to help anyone who needed it in any way she could. There were so many animals abandoned during that storm that Ashley quickly found her calling as a volunteer. She aided with the rescue of many animals and also came back with a couple of new members to her family (one dog and one cat). This is just one of many stories that could be told about Ashley's generosity. Ashley typically has around 8 dogs under her own roof that she cares for and fosters. At the same time she is minding her brood of dogs, Ashley is raising two young boys and working as a Veterinary Technician. This would be a lot to manage even in the best of health!
Ashley’s life was forever changed 3 years ago when her brother was tragically killed in an accident. A short time later she was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Lupus (a disease that causes your immune system to attack the organs of the body). The symptoms of this disease were exacerbated by the stress of grieving for her brother. Adding to this trauma, Ashley was sexually assaulted last year by a stranger as she was walking through a parking lot to her car. After this assault, Ashley was unable to work for 3 months due to physical and emotional trauma. The stress of her situation has taken a severe toll on her health. She has been diagnosed with additional autoimmune diseases, has undergone multiple surgeries and frequently is too weak to get out of bed. The countless co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions coupled with her inability to work for many months have had a devastating financial impact on her family. They have sold everything they can, including her mother’s engagement ring that she inherited when her mother passed away. Her car was recently repossessed and her home (the childhood home of her husband and the only home her 2 boys have ever known) is in foreclosure. And if all of this wasn’t enough, the day following her latest surgery on August 7th, one of her dogs chewed up her husbands $6000 hearing aids without which he is almost totally deaf.
It isn’t fair that someone so generous, who has offered so much of herself to the world, is being dealt these devastating blows. I am hoping we can change that with your help! Donations totaling $6000 will help Ashley keep her home. Donations totaling $10,000 will help Ashley keep her home, her car and help replace her husband’s hearing aids.
