Provide a Fresh Meal for Displaced Families

The Gaza Strip is currently grappling with an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to the prolonged Israeli assault, now spanning over 150 days. The impact has been devastating; to date, an estimated 30,000 Palestinians have been killed and another 67,000 injured. Women and children make up a large majority.

The World Food Program (WFP), other UN agencies, and a variety of non-governmental organizations report that the entire population of Gaza – roughly 2.2 million people – is suffering acute food insecurity. A report from a coalition of governments, agencies and NGOs (IPC) found that 26% of Gazans (576,600 people) have exhausted their food supplies and capacity to cope and are at risk of starvation.

According to the IPC, famine could occur within the next six months if the intense conflict and restricted humanitarian access persists. Livelihoods have collapsed, bakeries are destroyed and shops are empty. Simply put, families can’t find food. People told WFP staff that they often go entire days without eating and that many adults go hungry so that children can eat.

This fundraiser is arranged by We Are Not Numbers volunteers. It aims to provide food parcels to WANN writers, their families, and others in the displacement camps in the south of the Gaza Strip. Depending on the funds received, we will expand our reach to additional areas.

This fundraiser is different from other campaigns in two main aspects:

1- We will focus on providing fresh food, such as fruits and vegetables (vs. canned and dried). Families deserve a healthy meal.

2- We will purchase food supplies from Gazan farmers directly; thus, we will not have to wait for food trucks coming via Egypt, and we will support local business people.
