Quest For A Cure

Hi, my name is MaryAnn Emerick and I am currently at risk for Huntington's Disease. Huntington's Disease is a inherited disease that causes a progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain which causes the body and mind to deteriorate. There is currently no cure. My grandpa, and my Aunt MaryAnn passed away before I was born because of this disease. It also took my mother almost three years ago. My uncle, who is gene positive, is currently living at a healthcare facility. Aside from myself, my younger cousins, and my sister are all at risk. This has put a dark cloud over our family, but has given us this unconditional love, strength, and compassion. My family is the most amazing support system anyone could ask for. About a year and a half ago I decided to sign up for my first Tough Mudder. My ongoing battle with my body image, and my fear of having Huntington's Disease pushed me to sign up. Anorexia almost took my life 4 years ago, and I promised myself I would never let anything else take control of me ever again, including Huntington's Disease. Since that first Tough Mudder, I have completed 5 more. I guess I would consider myself addicted. I want to be the strongest person I can be. I decided to sign up for the World's Toughest Mudder on November 15, 2014. I am running for awareness, and to cure Huntington's Disease.  I am documenting my journey to the World's Toughest Mudder as well as my decision to get tested for HD and the process of getting tested on my website questtocurehd.wordpress.com.  Please help me find a cure.  Your generostiy will go a long way to helping raise awareness and finding a cure for Huntington's Disease.
