Stand in Solidarity with Chilean Resistance

Dear friends,
As our peers in Chile fight for a more just and equitable future, we cannot just stand by and watch. We must act in solidarity with those who are struggling every day for a people’s assembly to create a new constitution. As you may know, the current constitution was written by the Pinochet regime, and has entrenched some of the most intensely free-market systems in the world. This, in turn, has led to skyrocketing inequality throughout the country. As activists and organizers have resisted these systems in recent months, the state has responded with cruel repression and violence, leaving dozens dead and thousands injured.
With this in mind, this campaign aims to raise funds for a women’s collective in the Balmaceda neighborhood of La Serena that leads civic education efforts in that community. They organize workshops to teach community members about the constituent process, necessary structural changes, and the plebiscite on a new constitution on April 15th. Funds will be used for stationary, ink for printing, photocopies, graphic design, sound systems, rent for venues, and, most importantly, to reserve time slots on the radio to disseminate information.
If we are able to exceed our fundraising goal, some of the funds will be used to amplify the work of other civic education initiatives that are fighting for a constituent process to create a new constitution. This new constitution would ultimately minimize the existing inequality and state abuses throughout the country.

Mientras que nuestrxs amigxs en Chile luchan para un futuro más justo y equitativo, no podemos simplemente pararnos y mirar. Tenemos que actuar en solidaridad con ellos quienes luchan cada día para un Proceso Constituyente para crear una Nueva Constitución. Como ustedes ya saben, la constitución actual fue escrita por el regimen Pinochet, y ha atrincherado algunos de los sistemas más intensamente mercado-libre en todo el mundo. Esto ha creado desigualdad inmensa a través del país. Mientras que activistas y organizadores han resistido estos sistemas en los meses recientes, el estado ha respondido con represión y violencia cruel, resultando en docenas de muertos y miles de víctimas.
Con todo esto en mente, esta campaña intenta juntar fondos para un cabildo autoconvocado de mujeres en la población Balmaceda de La Serena que conduce esfuerzos de educación cívica dentro de la comunidad, promoviendo la creación de una Nueva Constitución. Ellxs organizan talleres para enseñar pobladores sobre el proceso constituyente, los cambios estructurales necesarios, y el plebiscito sobre una nueva constitución el 15 de abril. Los fondos serán utilizados para tinta, impresiones, fotocopias, diseño gráfico, arriendo para amplificación, sistemas de sonido, y lo más importante, para espacios radiales para difundir información.
Si podemos sobrepasar nuestra meta de juntar fondos, algunos de los fondos serán utilizados para amplificar el trabajo de otras iniciativas de educación cívica que están luchando para un proceso constituyente para crear una nueva constitución. Esta Nueva Constitución reduciría la desigualdad existente y el abuso estatal a través del país.
