Thanks to you the Cirque de Bohème has grown year after year with a benevolence that has made our adventure a unique artistic achievement. For years you all have loyally and with fidelity, generosity and enthusiasm, followed and enjoyed 6 years of the Holiday Cirque de Bohème performances. I come to you today to ask for your help with a project whose seeds were planted years ago.
The time has come to travel across the ocean!
With your help and support as loyal, enthusiastic guests of our cirque, as well as generous contributions for help to purchase flooring for our tent, we have been able to bring the highest quality performers to our Bohemian House in the intimate comfort of our circus tent. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity and dedication to our creative endeavor.
Today, at the year 2019, our Cirque de Bohème has the opportunity to return for the first time since its renaissance in California, to the country that is at the center of our creative inspiration – France!
We have recently and unexpectedly been invited to bring our Cirque to the 2019 Festival D'Avignon in the south of France this coming July. It is something we have dreamed of and I am humbled to have received this prestigious invitation. Should this adventure succeed, it would provide an opportunity to make our circus debut at one of the most important theatre festivals in the world.
Of course, this invitation is a big financial challenge for our production team. The costs involved in travel, lodging, production etc., are beyond our ability to undertake alone. That is why we come to you to consider helping us to achieve this new page in the history of our circus. We are hoping to raise $29,000 by July, 2019.
The festival D'Avignon is an alternative theatre and live show Festival. It is one of the largest festivals in the world consisting of independent troupes with over 1,530,000 tickets sold in 2016. Year after year, the festival continues its exponential expansion going from 40 performances in the early 1970, to a thousand in early 2000, over 1400 in 2017 and 1580 in 2018 !
In addition, this festival attracts the theatre market where programmers from every country come to make their selections for future events and bookings. This is a chance for our circus to be discovered by the professionals and programmers for other festivals, theaters and TV shows in Europe.
THE VITALS -
Below are the costs we CAN cover at this time -
· Creation of a new show specially designed for this festival
· Production and rehearsals of the show here in California
· Creation of new costumes and sets
· New musical production
· Travel this winter to scout venue and determine detailed production specifics needed.
· Radio and TV promotion on site at the festival
And here is what we NEED to raise funds for to make it all happen:
· 6 airline tickets for the transportation of artists and some technicians from California to Paris.
· Transportation of a portion of our scene material and costumes indispensable to the realization of the spectacle.
· 6 train tickets for the trip between Paris and Avignon.
· The rental in Avignon of a house for the lodging of our troupe for the duration of the festival.
· Renting a vehicle that can carry the troupe for the duration of the festival.
· The rental of the venues and the salaries of the technicians on site.
· Production of promotional material. (500 posters + 10.000 Flyers)
We hope you will consider helping us reach this dream. Any amount of donation is welcome and most appreciated! Again, we will need the funding by July, 2019 in order to secure the performers and flight/lodging arrangements.
Additionally, if your company might be interested in sponsoring this creative bohemian endeavor, we would attach the name to the Cirque de Bohème for the duration of the festival. Recognition would appear on posters, flyers, websites and in local radio and TV interviews.
