Chunky Boy's Surgery

2 years ago we found this little guy living outside of our apartment building drinking from the gutter, sleeping under cars, hiding in the bushes, and even braving the worst weather conditions. When we moved we decided to take him with us and give him a proper home. He's been nothing but grateful and affectionate to us ever since we took him in and has really accepted his role as one of our own in our house. We knew adopting a cat off the streets would be a daunting task and we were prepared to take that risk on but were completely caught off guard with what has taken place this week. A few days he started acting unusual, licking himself a lot, squatting in weird places, hiding in dark areas, and stopped eating and drinking all together. This was very unsettling to us as he's never exhibited any unusual behavior before. I took him to the vet yesterday and they said that his bladder was completely full and he had blood clots blocking his urethra. They said if we had not brought him in then it would have ruptured. They kept him there all day and flushed his bladder out using a urinary catheter and gave him plenty of anti inflammatory medication. They told us he should be fine and we took him back home. This morning when I awoke I found him hiding in the litter box again but this time he was straining to breathe. I took him back to the vet immediately and they said that he was blocked up again and would need surgery to fix what was going on and as well as a 3 day stay for monitoring and to get his levels back to normal. They presented us with a rather hefty invoice and said it was either this or "the alternative". Emily and I love this cat to death and would move mountains to keep him alive.
