Chuck and Pam Stouffer’s fire recovery

On Sunday, July 28th at approximately 2:30, my Mom arrived home (after spending the day taking care of my Grandma) to discover her home of 35 years engulfed in flames. Praise God they were not at home when it started! However, this was not the first tragedy to hit my parents this month. Last Monday, July 22nd, the house was burglarized and ransacked. Nearly a week later, Mom and Dad were still sifting through the mess to discover what was stolen and now it’s all gone. This fire was devastatingly catastrophic and left the house a charred shell. They have lost virtually everything, what didn’t burn was destroyed by smoke and the water from the fire hose. This house contained personal items, Dad’s antique collection from the store he closed in Clawson, MI two years ago, as well as all of Mom’s teaching supplies for the upcoming school year. On top of all of that, we lost beloved family heirlooms and so many irreplaceable photos. With Dad on the verge of reopening a new antique space and mom looking for a new teaching position, the timing is particularly frustrating. What makes this loss truly disastrous is that for the past three years, they have spent every extra dollar supporting me and my children after a horrible divorce. Due to that support, they had to let the Homeowner’s Insurance lapse for their own property. I am heart-broken to see their generous and selfless actions result in such immense personal and professional loss. I’ve been blessed to have them as my parents and from the bottom of my heart, I am begging for any financial and physical assistance you would be willing to offer them as they work to rebuild their lives.
