Christopher Mendez Fundraiser

Donation protected
Christopher Mendez tragically passed away during the Labor Day weekend while in Mexico visiting his mother who is gravely ill. Chris leaves behind his family and a 2-year old daughter. This fundraiser will benefit the family with costly memorial and red-tape expenses relating to transporting his remains from Mexico to USA along with additional memorial expenses once he arrives in CA. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $15,000-$20,000 to cover all those expenses.

Additionally, we would love to raise more funds through this GoFundMe page to put aside into an educational fund for his 2 year old daughter. This fund will be managed by a law firm under the supervision of a California licensed attorney.  This law firm will not be charging any fees in relation to these services. (Pro-Bono)

Christopher was heavily involved at the University of La Verne College of Law. He was the Secretary of the Sports & Entertainment Law Society and coordinated with the Justice and Immigration Clinic advocating and providing pro-bono assistance to immigrants seeking asylum in the USA.

Additionally, Christopher was named to the Dean's List and received CALI awards commemorating and recognizing his auspicious academic performance in law school. The CALI award is reserved for a law student who earned the highest grade in that course. Christopher received CALI awards in California Civil Procedure and Topics in Legal History.  Recently, Christopher’s article “Dignity Takings in Leviathanic Immigration Proceedings” had recently been accepted for publication in St. Mary’s Law Review on Race and Social Justice, an exceptional accomplishment. (This will be posted on here when it's published)

Christopher volunteered for the Garcia Immigration Law Group, Inc. located in Riverside, CA and traveled with them to Tijuana, Mexico to provide legal assistance to individuals who were seeking dual citizenship with Mexico and the USA.  He had a passion advocating for individuals who weren't capable of advocating for themselves.

Outside of law school when Christopher would relax from his studies, he enjoyed a variety of activities including: indulging a hot white chocolate from Starbucks, Latin/Salsa dancing, his frequent trips to King Taco for food runs, dining at Corky's in Upland, CA where the staff was always familiarized with his illustrious presence, watching boxing matches, traveling to various places all over the world, and priding himself in his fashion tastes by showcasing his Velour blazers and winged-tip shoes.

Christopher was ecstatic to be a father to his 2 year old daughter, Elise. He enjoyed being a constant presence in her life, recently enrolling her in swimming lessons. Any moment that Christopher was able to spend with Elise, it made him feel full of life.

Christopher cared deeply about his family, friends, and the community at the University of La Verne College of Law. He was someone you could always depend on and made himself available at all times. He cared about everyone he interacted with and will surely be missed.  More details about the memorial service will be released on this page as they become available. Thank you all for donating and sharing the fundraiser for our beloved Christopher.
